Susan Axelrod is one of the founders and is today the Chair of Citizens United in Research for Epilepsy, CURE. She is the wife of Washington D.C. insider and political consultant David Axelrod, now senior advisor to President Obama. Susan and David are the parents of Lauren, who was born in 1981 and soon after diagnosed with epilepsy.
Also on the board of CURE is Randy Siegel, publisher and president of Parade magazine, whose daughter, Rebecca, is living with epilepsy. Randy spends much of his energy writing articles to increase awareness of the effects of epilepsy on the lives it touches.
Katie Couric, the anchor of CBS Evening News and “60 Minutes” correspondent, was the guest speaker at the April, 2010 Chicago benefit to raise money for CURE. Because of her efforts, and that of many others, CURE received unprecedented media attention this past year.
