The Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF) has four main goals: a) to promote and protect freedom of speech and freedom of the press; b) to protect the public’s accessibility to library information and data; c) to preserve the right of libraries to distribute their materials freely and d) to provide legal counsel (or means of getting legal counsel) to libraries and staff in their “defense of First Amendment rights.”  The two main areas of work the foundation engages in are: a) selecting grants to people and organizations for litigation purposes and b) direct involvement in litigation on matters of freedom of speech and of the press.
