The Knicks Poetry Slam that takes place once a year in New York City gives youth the opportunity to express themselves “through poetry and hip-hop.” The program is helpful to the participants on various levels and involves four areas: a) giving the youth the opportunity to visit schools so that they can discuss future college options; b) Poetry Open Audition; c) expansive College Fair and d) the Poetry Slam. To date, this program has impacted more than 10, 000 students. The 2009-2010 Program will give winners over $350,000 in college grants and prizes.
